10,000 Things Make You STRONGER (or weaker)
As a strength geek you understand that our brand of
“strength” isn’t just about how much weight you can
We see strength is a holistic way.
We see how EVERYTHING… from the way you think,
the way you talk, the depth of your breathing, your
ability to think clearly, focus intently ALL contribute
to making you stronger.
The STRONGEST VERSION OF YOURSELF!
And that is what we are here for… growing stronger and
inspiring others to do the same.
In the ancient Taoist and Buddhist tradition of the East,
philosophers and poets, such as Lao Tzu, would use
the term “10,000 Things” to describe all things in the
Sample verse from the Tao Te Ching:
Tao produced the One.
The One produced the two.
The two produced the three.
And the three produced the ten thousand things.
A lot of people become upset when I talk about things like
how the digestive system works, how psychological character
structure influences muscular behavior, and sex.
The say “Elliott, you are a strength coach… why do you
bother us with so much talk about other things that aren’t
What these people don’t understand is that 10,000 Things
contribute to making you stronger.
Not just the mechanics of your squat.
In fact, the way you squat is influenced by your experiences
with potty training.
If you were forced to hold your shit as a young child when
the muscles of the anus were not yet fully developed, you
would have resorted to tightening the hip flexors and upper
hamstrings in order to avoid “letting go” and soiling yourself.
Now you ask me “Elliott, why can’t I squat well… why are my
hip flexors and hams so tight?”
I might have you consider what kind of potty training
experience you had.
My point is that NOTHING is isolated.
EVERYTHING counts towards making you stronger or
We have to look deeper that just the muscle… we have to
look at The 10,000 Things.
You don’t grow stronger without considering The 10,000
