Strong Body

“I Can’t Gain Muscle Mass… what should I do?”

One of my favorite things to do is answer questions for
people on my YouTube channel.

Especially from younger, skinny-dudes who have a hard
time gaining mass.

Like last week when I offered two simple tips to a little
dude who claimed to be stuck in a mass gaining rut…

All I told him to do was:

1. Add “drop sets” to the end of your last set of every
strength training exercise.

This will allow him to continue to get stronger (which
was one of his goals) AND force his muscle to grow
by adding a single bodybuilding technique to his
routine.

2. Eat lots of brown rice.

The extra carbs will help get our little friend SWOLE and
also force an insulin-like growth factor response as well.

The fact is that if he does these two simple things he WILL
gain some serious mass and break out of the mass gaining
rut he finds himself in.

I also give him a slice of advice in case this method caused
him to gain some body fat.

He is to “back off” the rice for a week or so and then start
up again as needed.

This advice is good, and will work.

But there is a more systematic way of going about this kind
of “over-feeding” and “under-feeding”.

It’s called “Hybrid Mass Cycling” and you can learn more
about how it works at the website below.

http://www.hulsestrength.com/recommends/hybrid-mass

Right now I am about to start cutting back again, as I get
ready for my next strongman show.

I weigh about 210 and need to be under 200 to compete in
the light weight class.

So, I’ll be taking my own advice and cycle my carb intake
in order to keep my strength up, but lose a little weight.

More about my strongman adventures later ;)

Grow Stronger,
Elliott Hulse

PS – If gaining “clean mass” is a goal of yours, then give
this a try.

Anxiety Is Destroying Your Muscle

Hey, before I share today’s message I just wanted to remind
you that today is the last day to get Eric Wong’s Explosive
Olympic Lifting program on sale :)

Here is your link:
http://www.hulsestrength.com/recommends/olympic-lifts

If you enjoy strength and explosive training as much as I do,
then I think you’ll like Eric’s instructional videos.

You many not get “anxiety attacks” or even carry a sense of
anxiety with you everyday, like the people in the medication
commercials on TV… but to some degree you have probably
suffered from a level of anxiety.

We all do.

What I’ve experienced is that anxiety is your body’s way of
telling you that it needs to discharge!

To discharge trapped energy could come in the form of yelling,
crying, heavy breathing or any number of physical movements
and exercise.

When you experience the “trapped” sensation of anxiety, you
are literally “holding back” e-motion… or movement.

We all learned how to hold ourselves back though childhood
conditioning.

When you wanted to run, jump and yell… but your mother told
you to sit down and shut up, you learned how to tense your
muscles in order to hold back your excitement.

Over time these muscles have become chronically tense which
has lead you to have muscular imbalances that either do not
allow you to use the muscle fully, or cause injury in your joints.

The best way to destroy the anxiety which may be killing your
chance at building more strength, muscle and becoming the
stronger you… with with “discharge exercises”.

Things like yelling out loud, punching a bag or humping a
mattress work really well :)

ANNOUNCEMENT - if you enjoy some of my more advanced,
yet “off the wall” ideas about strength and personal development
keep an eye out for another e mail from me later today or
tomorrow.

It’s an invitation to join a separate newsletter that I’ve created
dedicated to these ideas.

Talk to you later,
Elliott Hulse

Elliott’s New Weightlifting Shoes

Back in 2002 I had been about 2 years out from playing
my last game of college football (a sad day indeed).

But fortunately I decided to take a job at a budding strength
and conditioning gym in Scarsdale, New York where the
head coach was also an Olympic weightlifter.

After a few months of practicing the “O-Lifts” I decided
to try my hand at competing in the sport of Olympic
Weightlifting.

So, naturally I had to buy all of the weightlifting gear
including a sexy red singlet and pair of “wedges” or
Olympic Weightlifting shoes.

I think I took first or second in my weight class… and then
never entered another competition.

But I DID continue practicing the Olympic Lifts.

Over the following 10 years I continued to train with
variations of the Olympic lifts, I trained for power lifting
and competed in the sport of strongman… all wearing the
same old shoes I bought in 2002!

It’s not that the shoes were so rugged that they could
withstand 10 years of abuse… it’s that I glued and duct
taped them together over a dozen times.

To say that I am a minimalist is an understatement :)

Finally, last month I broke down and invested in a new
pair of lifting shoes… check em out!

I like to use these shoes for most over head pressing,
front squats, dead lifts and of course Olympic lifting.

If you’re looking to shake up your program by including
some of the advanced lifts that I use like Olympic lifting,
then it might be a good idea to spend some time learning
how to do them properly.

Fortunately I had a coach teach me.

And fortunately for YOU, Eric Wong has created one
of the most comprehensive video courses on Olympic
Weight lifting I’ve ever seen.

You can watch some of the videos here.

Also, I asked Eric if he would be so kind as to put his
course on sale for my readers this week… I think he cut
about 50% off and even added a few bonuses for us :)

You can take a look at the website below for more:

Talk to ya tomorrow.

ONE Exercise That Builds ALL Muscles!

For the next few weeks I’ll be putting together a new
comprehensive presentation outlining several of the
new strength building methods I am using at Strength
Camp.

I’ll only be sharing this “Hulse Strength Method” with
a small handful of students who’ll attend a clinic I’m
holding sometime in May or June (more details to
come).

Anyway, a large part of my new strength training
protocol includes the idea of getting more done with
less time and effort.

It’s called “Training Economy” and is described by some
as training at the minimum effective dosage (MED).

For example… if you could build just as much muscle
with a single set of an exercise versus three or four sets,
which would you choose?

Single set, right?

There are some exercises that are also very “economical”.

These are exercises that build strength, power, speed,
muscle mass and agility ALL AT ONCE!

In my new “Hulse Strength Method” these exercises rank
at the top of the priority list.

I will often just choose one of these exercises and then
follow up with one, maaaaybe two additional exercises to
complete the workout.

Here is the only drawback to these exercises… most people
use them WRONG!

In fact, most people don’t even know how to do them.

Click Here to learn more about these powerful compound
movements, how to do them and how to effectively
program them into your training.

Grow Stronger (and more economical),
Elliott Hulse

PS – I may create some tutorial videos on how I personally
add these to my workouts.

Stay tuned ;)

The Smelly Fart Cure

Back in 2005 I had a really bad problem.

I was a chronic farter.

That’s right… I farted, ALOT.

And not only did I fart all day long, but they STUNK!

Of course everyone’s farts smell badly, but mine were
the type that makes the paint peel off the walls.

It was bad.

So I began working with a man who has become one of
my mentors, Dr. Kalish. Dr. Kalish is an expert in
functional medicine.

This means that he takes a series of poop, blood and
saliva specimen from his patients and uses the lab results
to help the patient discover a natural cure to his ailments.

(I have been studying this Functional Medicine method
with Dr. Kalish also. In a few months I’ll be qualified to
do the same assessments for my clients. More on that later)
We discovered that I had become “gluten intolerant”.

Gluten is found in many grains including wheat, barley,
rye, oats and soy. (like ALL breads, etc)

This meant that if I ate any foods that contained gluten I
would experience inflammation in the colon which shuts
down the ability to efficiently absorb the food in my gut.

The inflammation coupled with the partially digested food
in my gut caused all of the smelly farts!

Before working on the causes of my gluten intolerance
Dr. Kalish simply suggested I go on a “Paleo Diet”.

This is a diet that limited my food intake to mostly meat
and veggies. I had to exclude all grains and dairy from
my diet for several months.

When I adopted this Paleo Diet all of the farts went
away!

As it turns out, over 70% of people in our culture have
gluten intolerance.

The symptoms may vary… I got the “smelly fart”
symptom, but others may experience things like:

+ Red Dots / Scales on the back of their arms.

+ Little while flecks on their finger nails.

+ Bad breath

+ Low energy and sexual vitality

+ Chronic indigestion

+ Problems with focus and concentration

+ Plus many, many more…

Today I still keep gluten to a limit and get most of my
carbs from potatoes or rice.

The fact is that most of us would do well by following
a “paleo-type” diet.

I invite you to learn more about this diet and its health
benefits by studying the experts that my friend Sean
Croxton has interview for the Paleo Summit.

CLICK HERE to lean about the Paleo Summit.

Sean put The Paleo Summit on sale until the end of the
day today… I think you save about $30 if you get it before
midnight tonight.

I think it’s well worth the investment.

Interview With Dr. Stan Pierce, Upper Cervical Specialist

Recently I’ve discovered a new and powerful method for bringing balance to the muscular system.

Along with the assessment, stretching and strengthening protocol’s that I teach my Strengthology Students as well as in my Muscle Virus Solution program… this new method seeks to attack the issue of “muscle viruses” at it’s root — THE NERVOUS SYSTEM.

The interview below features my good friend and care provider, Dr. Stan Pierce.

In this interview you will discover how most muscular imbalances can be traced back to the misalignment of a tiny bone in your neck named The Atlas.

Once this misalignment is corrected you or your clients will experience an immediate increase in movement capacity, pain reduction, recover ability, strength and performance…. just like I experienced prior to my last strongman competition where I took first place.

**Dr. Stan will be working with our Strengthology students as a part of the Level 1 Certification**

If you have any questions about something mentioned in this interview please comment below and I’ll try to get you a solid answer.

Elliott Hulse

Avoid This “Neurotic Training Cycle”

I’m willing to bet that either you or someone you know
has been caught in a “neurotic cycle.”

A neurotic cycle is a dyfunctional pattern of behavior
which reproduces identical, yet undesired, results with
each repetition.

For example… the woman who keeps hooking up with
men that beat her.

On a conscious level she is not looking for abusive men,
but she is caught in a neurotic cycle that keeps
reproducing the same result.

This also works for the guy who can’t keep a job; the
person who always loses things; the person who is
always sick or injured…

And the guy who can’t seem to gain lean muscle!

Just like the woman who always dates abusive men, the
guy who is having difficulty gaining lean muscle has
honest and good intentions.

He really WANTS to burn fat and build muscle, but he
keeps making unconscious decisions that lead him back
down the road to a soft and unattractive body.

If the woman in my example simply took the time to
become self objective and take notice of her “routine”,
eventually she would see where certain choices she had
been making keeps leading her to failure.

If our guy, desperate to finally become lean and strong,
suddenly noticed that every time he goes to they gym
he follows the same exact LOSING routine that will
never work… he would now have the awareness to
change!

Breaking neurotic cycles takes 2 very important steps.

#1. Take Notice – Try to become self-aware. This means
stepping back and looking at your behavior with an
objective (detached) eye.

#2. Choose A New Routine – Once you’ve taken notice of
your neurotic cycle, now it’s time to replace it with a new
and more resourceful routine.

In the case of our guy who wants to become leaner and
stronger, he could simply choose to follow a new workout
routine that is completely “out of the box”.

A workout routine that combines power lifting, functional
exercise, bodybuilding and hybrid conditioning to quickly
reshape his body and finally reach his goal of becoming
lean, strong and attractive.

If you haven’t reached your lean muscle building goals
yet, then perhaps it’s time to break the neurotic cycle that
keeps you soft and weak.

Perhaps it’s time to give my Lean Hybrid Muscle Building
routine a shot.

How To Destroy Self Doubt Forever!

Believe it or not… Elliott “The Incredible” Hulse often
(very often) struggles with self-doubt.

In fact, just last night I was in an all out war with it!

But I always win.

How do I destroy self doubt when it shows its ugly face?

First, I go straight to my library of books and resources
for two things.

#1 - Resources that inspire me to pull myself out of the
slump. These are usually spiritual books or poetry.

Sometimes they’re books written by other artists or
experts who have gone through the same types of battles
that I am currently facing.

#2 - Professional resources that confirm or build my
knowledge in the area that I am struggling. These are
books about strength, physiology, psychology or
business.

Theses are often technical and educational books that
give me the knowledge to succeed (and be the best) in
my area of expertise.

Have you ever struggled with self doubt?

If so, how do you arm yourself in order to WIN the
battle?

Do you have a resource library containing dozens or
even hundreds of books that motivate, inspire and
educate you?

If not… then you should begin adding these resources
to your library today.

Here are a list of resources that I’ve created for you:

Here are some comforting words from The War of Art book
that I recommend above, it was just the thing I needed to
read last night before going to sleep.

We’re Growing Stronger Together,
Elliott Hulse

PS – a question for you… do you enjoy reading and viewing
my books and resources online (like e books, etc)? — or would
you rather have them as a hard copy product (real books, dvds)?

Personally, I like hard copy stuff… but I want to make sure
that I create things in the format that you prefer.

If you have a moment, just reply to this post (below) and let me know.

Thanks :)

How To Build “Ancient Greek Strength”

According to ancient Greek mythology, the Titan warrior
“Atlas” was punished for an act of betrayal.

He was sentenced to carry the world on his shoulders for
eternity.

You might say that his punishment was actually a great
responsibility.

Imagine for a moment that Atlas decided to take a coffee
break, had to scratch his nose, or just became so weak that
he could no longer hold the world on his shoulders.

Everything would collapse! If Atlas even blinked… we
would all be dead.

Of course, this is all a myth.

But consider that every single healthy, human being on
earth as a bone in his body, located in his neck, called
The Atlas.

The Atlas bone is a vertebrae located at the base of your
skull.

It literally “holds the weight of your world”!

As the spinal chord descends from the cerebral cortex down
into your body through the tiny holes in your spine, it must
first pass through the Atlas.

You already know how sensitive your nervous system is.

If there is even a slight disruption of the impulses that travel
through your nervous network you will suffer pain and
dysfunction.

Anyone who has had sciatica can attest to these statements.

Now, imagine that your personal Atlas, holding up the
weight of your world… became injured!

Imagine that he moved, even slightly, from the place where
he was intended to be.

What type of havoc might this create in your body?

For one, you’ll have a TON of muscle viruses that no matter
how much you stretch… will NOT go away!

And that is just the beginning.

This is a HUGE topic that deserves a ton of consideration
when developing training programs for yourself or your
clients.

Especially if becoming the strongest version of yourself is
you main objective.

That is why I have invited an expert in Atlas Orthogonal
to visit my gym next month for our Strengthology Level 1
workshop.

I realize that before we get into all of the hands on work
of assessing and correcting Muscle Viruses… we must
FIRST consider how the muscles are receiving impulses
via the nervous system.

If this is not considered, then no amount of stretching and
exercises will create a truly balanced body.

There is still space to join us, and learn more about how
to assess and correct via this Atlas Orthogonal technique.

Elliott’s Workout vs Your Workout

Lately I’ve been posting more of my training videos over
on my YouTube channel.

I post my successes as well as my failures for everyone to
see.

The reason why I think this is important is because humans
are visual creature.

Most teachers, professors, coaches and gurus like to sit up
on their high horse and tell people what to do. Many of these
dudes probably can not even do the things they ask others to
do.

Quite frankly, they’re full of shit.

People want to SEE what you are talking about… and more
importantly they want to SEE that you have real experience
doing the things you talk about.

Over on my Strength Camp members only website I post
every single workout that I perform. Every single rep and
set is laid out for the members to see.

The smart members take my workouts, or the other workouts
I post on the website, and put them to use immediately.

The really smart ones take these workouts and tweak them
to meet their specific needs, or the goals of their clients.

The other reason why I have been posting more workout
videos is because I want people to see the ATTITUDE I
train with.

Lots of people have good workout plans. They are well
thought out and structured.

But it ends there!

When it comes time to execute… they FAIL.

They just don’t put in the type of intensity that I do. Its
almost like they don’t trust their bodies. They train with
apprehension.

What they don’t realize is that it takes practice to develop
a strong mindset in the same way that it takes practice to
build a strong body.

This is why I also create motivational and insightful videos
a few times a month for my members.

You can see many of the archives when you join today…
plus I’ll be making a new one tomorrow morning ;)

Elliott Hulse
