Muscles That Don’t Work (how to fix them)
One of the most important concepts that I emphasize when
teaching my STRENGTHOLOGY 101 Students how to
design superior training programs is the importance of
training the nervous system.
You see, muscles that don’t grow are usually muscles that
don’t work.
The reason why they don’t work is because the athlete has
what is called “a faulty recruitment pattern”… basically their
nervous system has a glitch in it.
This glitch, that causes your nervous system to “by pass”
certain muscle when performing a movement, can be the
result of an old injury, bad posture habits and even emotional
imbalances.
Either way, the faulty recruitment pattern causes certain
muscles not to work even when they normally should.
These faulty recruitment patterns eventually create what
I call a muscle virus, because it creates imbalances in the
structure and function of the athlete.
The best way to fix one of these faulty recruitment patterns,
after a thorough assessment, is to…
#1. Stretch the muscle OPPOSITE or antagonistic to the one
that is not working.
#2. Strengthen the non-working muscle with isolation exercises.
#3. Re-Teach the movement pattern with the newly recruited
muscles in its proper form.
Listen guys, we are laying the foundation here!
We are looking at the ROOTS and foundation of what makes
someone a stronger version of themselves.
If just throwing around a few weights or treating your clients
like the kids on The Barney Show with silly exercises that serve
no real purpose seem like a path to excellence… then you might
need your head examined.
But if becoming a coach, trainer or total bad ass that understands
all that helps someone reach their full genetic potential is
important to you… the you are already a STRENGTHOLOGY
student.
You just need to take the next step to make it official.

I am 110% committed to sharing our message of strength and
empowerment with the world.
When EVERYONE knows their true power and is living a life
that facilitates becoming the strongest version of themselves we
will see a massive cultural and consciousness shift!
But we need your help.
Tomorrow is the last day to register for this course… after this
week I will be working on the 201 course that is all about what
I call Psycho-Somatic Strength!
It is truly the most fascinating topic I have ever studied!
Until then… GROW STRONGER,
Elliott “The Incredible” Hulse

If I may add another technique to the list above for activating inefficient muscles?
In my Kinesiology studies we learned that you can de-activate reactive muscle first, then re-activate the dysfunctioning muscle whilst its reactive partner is offline.
The process of finding the strong/dominating reacting muscle is a little harder to describe, but it will nearly always be either in the same kinetic chain, closely related or nearby, or its antagonist pair. You can always see this over reacting muscle activating when the one you want to activate is trying to be used. It’s a bit like being a muscle detective…
To de-activate a muscle you can either stretch it powerfully but slowly, stretch out the golgi tendon organs or compress/shorten the muscle spindles (there are others also). Then go onto do whatever you want to do to activate the previously dysfunctional muscle.
I use this technique to great effect with PT clients, but also find that those who come back with the old reactivity pattern being repeated need to deal with some sort of emotional issue (not hard to do, and nearly always something small) before the pattern will go permanently.
