One “Sissy Thing” That REAL MEN Do
Cultural norms and ideals are as strange and tenuous
as the mood swings of a schizophrenic.
What is considered “wrong” today is not only tolerated
but held in high regard tomorrow.
And these ideas often change instantly depending on
where you are currently traveling.
For example… a few months ago I met a dude named
Hussain who was visiting the US from Saudi Arabia.
Hussain was a brilliant and interesting character so I
was naturally drawn into a few deep conversations with
him.
One interesting thing Hussain shared with me was about,
what is considered manly and appropriate male behavior
in Saudi, as opposed to the US.
In Saudi the men are very “macho”, showing very little
resistance and they work very hard to maintain an “Alpha”
persona amongst other men and women.
BUT… he also explained that men are often found holding
hands, kissing and hugging one another in public!
This is a stark contrast to the American male who won’t
even look into the eyes of another man, often afraid of
being considered homosexual.
Despite this, in the US men are conditioned AGAINST
becoming too macho and are instead encouraged to exhibit
more passive, yielding, feminine qualities.
Strange indeed!
Well another really weird idea in the US, is that women are
meant to cook food, while men only eat it. (cuz no one
really hunts for food anymore)
I can tell you from my experience that there is nothing manlier
than your ability to prepare food for yourself, and even for
your family.
What is more manly that handling raw meat and playing with
fire?!?
The whole idea that men are to manly, or more often put,
too busy to cook their own food reeks of insecurity, laziness
and resignation — if you ask me
So, today’s assignment….
