Why my kid kicks your kids a*s!
By Elliott | October 1, 2008
I just thought that you needed to see this video.
Since I have mixed feelings about what I see in the video, I am going to reserve comments - but I want to hear yours.
Tell me your thoughts on the way these children are being treated and trained. Remember how good the Chinese gymnasts are. Hmmm?
Post your comments below.

This country and probably all other countries that are funding the full-time training of individuals consider this an investment of time and resources. So in order to get the return they are investing in these children, they probably feel like these training methods are needed and important to establishing themselves as top in the world. But, from what I saw the children’s mental health is taking a serious ass whippin’. Physically, kids can do almost anything because mentally they feel invincible. But they feel invincible in their own way. It is a lot different when you have a 180-190 lbs. man sit on your shoulders while you do a full split to prove that point. It is more saddening to see then admire. It almost takes away from appreciating the Olympics. After winning a gold trinket, acquire a few endorsements, and host a few more world championships what is left for these kids? There bodies will begin to malfuction as they get older. They can’t retire from gymnastics like an NFL running back. Their childhood was robbed from them so it is not like they know what “fun” is for a while. For the first few seconds I was amazed at the abilities of the children, but throughout the video I started to get disheartened and angry at how they were being “coached.” and I use that term lightly.

The training is good (for the most), but it should only be reserved for teens and adults who WANT to train hard for a sport they Love. What the Chinese are doing is absolutely f**kin’ child abuse (Come on, kicking and pushing the kids)! These kids are forced into this life with the promise of possible glory for country and family - and in China that may be all someone has to look forward to. Failure there is far different than the failure-now-pick-yourself-up-and-succeed we have here.

Sorry, I don’t have mixed feelings about this at all. That is just wrong. These kids have no choice in how they are trained or about what they are training for. They are chosen because they exhibit basic physical requirements that can be molded to create a desired product. As a result that is what they become–products. Their sacrifice and achievement lose that same quality of an older self motivated athlete who pushes him/herself out of desire and passion. These kids are driven and consequently broken. I just feel sorry for them. It really tarnishes the amazement I felt when I watched them compete in Beijing. Thanks Elliot. I’m saddened but glad I saw this.

Great physical specimens, awesome discipline but mental, very damaged. It bothers me to see but this but it’s mild compared to much of what goes on in communist countries. As you can see there is a reason they act like robots.

The video struck a nerve with me…..
Sport and physicality is for the added enjoyment of life. Strength, health, balance, and longevity should be the goal of exercise, not stats, medals or cash.
Sorry guys, but a touchdown or a well thrown ball means nothing in the grand scheme of things. My local team does nothing to improve my life. A diversion from the daily grind is all it means to me and millions of dollars to them.
Our children have lost sight of that because of us. They are fat and unmotivated and have lost the joy of just getting some mindless exercise. You don’t see many street touch football games these days.
Many countries, including our own, have sacrificed their youth for the glory of the state. The communist block countries do less to hide it than the others. Lots of damaged kids out there. Sure, there are some magnificent athletic achievements and expanded possibilities shown for the human body. At what cost?
For every champion there are another 10,000 kids who end up trashed on the sidelines with broken spirits and bodies.
I am trying to teach my children (boys 7 & 10) to enjoy sport as a road to fun, health and self confidence.
My own experience has lead me from youth team sports with questionable coaching to powerlifitng, cycling to triathlon (Ironman 1983) and full circle to severe back injury (retired cop) and now being obese, diabetic and sadly out of shape.
My goals now are health, strength and being an example for my boys. Long road ahead. I have a box full of finishers shirts that no longer fit. We’ll see if I am successful.
Thanks for the soapbox and the information and motivation your site provides.
Keep up the good work,
Nick

This is just plain abuse. These children are being robbed but they know no different. They are ripped from their families at a young age and put through years of rigorous training, for what? While watching the olympics this year I cried harder for all the chinese athletes than I did for the Americans because you knew this was not their choice and all they are trying to do is please someone and not themselves. It broke my heart when they would fall because you knew they were gonna get an ass kickin when it was over. It really makes me sick to my stomach. Sad, very sad.

There abilities are amazing. But these children are being used for political gain. Just like the cheating in the past Olyimpics by the Chineeze with the female gymnist being under age. I enjoy watching kids training and playing sports as long as there having fun (smiles on there face). If I ever see an adult kick a kid or yank them down by there arm, espiecally mine “Ill be kicking there ASS”

I am saddened by the obvious signs of abuse thate show up on this video. I have always understood that muscular overdevelopment in children can cause severe damage to muscles, bones, etc. I’d like to see a compilation of interviews with older ex-gymnasts where they talk and demonstrate the damage (or not) that this underage training causes…………

I love it. But no need to grab or push when angry.
crying………I cried at all kinds of stupid shit when I was a kid that is how I got strong.
I read a book in high school about guys in concentration camps saying it was the best thing that ever happened to them. They learned how strong they truly were. This is hardly concentration camp.
In the end if the kids want to do it and go to Olympics then rock on.

I commented on a friends site when he sent this to me around the Olympics time, and I got very upset and nauseated. Being a father myself, there is NO type of training worthwhile for me to put my child in and know that it’s torture.(in my view) Where is the opurtunity to be just a child?

Its no different that warrior training. They are bred from birth to be warriors/athletes and thats what they do. Im in no way saying its modern day socially acceptable, but it’s the culture.

*than warrior training.

This is a product of the political influences as projected in the olympics. How many gold did the USA win, well not as many as China. But we won more total than they did. Who cares!! The spirit of the olympics is being strangled by politics. Look at those poor kids, if they had elected to train under those conditions that is thier choice but to be pressed into these conditons and deprived of thier childhood is for me too much to bear. They are sacrificing the youth of these kids on the altar of politics. I wonder what happened to the wonderkids of the russian gymnasts some how i feel the same fate awaits these children….

I was wondering how Yao Ming got so tall!
Unfortunately this “training” has gone on for centuries. I am surprised this video was able to be displayed! Thank you Elliot for raising our awareness!

china does not have any human rights and this video just proves it. these poor kids will be used to gain some popularity for their country but after they are done with them send them. to the country they are useless after that. during the olympics one of the commentators made a comment about an athlete from the previous olymipc of where is he now? be honest they really are not competing on a true level. they haven’t for years. they are all on some type of steroid. they have been doing them long enough and science is good enough to tell them when they need to stop taking them so it is no longer in their system when they all pee at the same time. true ability and competition is gone in my eyes. to many people will do what ever it takes to win including screwing their bodies and lives up. i am all for good healthy competition but true ability not using something to get the edge.

Is this what you call in the “NAME OF SPORTS”?
THIS IS WHAT YOU CALL TORTURE FOR THE SAKE OF FAME.
